Thank you for visiting my travel blog!
Hi, I’m Katie. I’m relatively new to the travel blogging world, but I have spent a great deal of time traveling and aim to share my passion with you! I have created this blog as a way to share my travel stories, and I hope to inspire you along the way. Through this blog, I will provide tips and tricks I have learned (and will continue to learn) during my travels.
I’m not great with ice breakers — so bear with me. I grew up in the United States in Cleveland, Ohio. I know, I know, Cleveland gets a bad rap, but the city has its plus sides: the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, summers on Lake Erie, and arguably one of the best amusement parks in the world – Cedar Point. However, I definitely enjoy getting out of Ohio, as some of my favorite hobbies include scuba diving (as I’m sure you guessed from the picture) and skiing. I also enjoy hiking, spending time with friends, and, more recently, aerial silks and aerial hoop. I enjoy activities that get my adrenaline pumping and allow me to push my limits.
Why I Travel
Growing up, I have always had a fascination with trying new things and visiting distant lands. I remember having a globe and maps in my room, taking the time to research countless countries I found interesting. Reading National Geographic Kids and Ranger Rick was one of my favorite pastimes. These subscriptions were probably my first influences in learning about different locations and cultures. As a kid, I was also fortunate to be able to go on trips to various places, which further contributed to my love and passion for travel and adventure. As I got older, my passion for travel only grew stronger. I knew early on that one of my main life goals is to travel as much as possible.
After graduating with a nursing degree, I began my career as a registered nurse in a trauma intensive care unit. Working here has been extremely eye-opening, and one of the biggest influences in my decision to live my life to the fullest. My nursing career inspired me to take every opportunity I can to travel the world, and has given me perspective about the gift that each day is. You never know how much time is left, and this thought really pushed me to take advantage of every moment.
Why “Horizons Without Limits”
Choosing the name for my blog was honestly one of the most challenging things for me when starting. I wanted a name that wasn’t cliché. I wanted a name that would encompass my passion for travel, adventure, experiencing new things, pushing my limits, and inspiring others to do the exact same. And then I came upon the word “horizon”, which, according to the Oxford Dictionary, has two definitions:
Horizon noun
- the line at which the earth’s surface and the sky appear to meet
- the limit of a person’s mental perception, experience, or interest
The word “horizon” included the many horizons I’ve seen and will see in my travels, highlighting the main focus of this blog: travel. It also means so much more. I want to encourage everyone reading this to broaden their horizons: their mental perceptions, their experiences, their interests. Horizons Without Limits means there is no limit to where you can go, what you can experience, and what you can learn. Travel is more than sipping margaritas on a tropical beach (though I definitely recommend that too!); travel is about learning different cultures, opening your eyes to views far different from your own, and learning about yourself along the way.
What You Can Expect From This Blog
I don’t have one specific theme to my travel blog. I don’t consider myself solely a backpacker or a luxury traveler. Rather, I like to experience many aspects of travel while getting the best value. While I hope to dive more into solo travel, I fully appreciate trips with friends and loved ones as well. If I were to pick anything as my main focus, it would be adventure and getting the most out of any trip. Through my blog, I will share my travel stories, tips, and missteps (as no trip would be complete without at least one!). I’m not here to tell you travel is perfect, but I think some of the best parts of the journey, and ultimately some of the best stories, are when things don’t go as planned.
Thanks for taking the time to read my little spiel. I hope you take a look around my site and find some helpful (or simply entertaining) articles. Feel free to follow me on social media as well to join me on my adventures!
